The Dance Place is a Newburyport dance studio where children and adults can indulge in their love for dance! Our non-competitive, nurturing environment allows dancers of any level and any age
to feel comfortable expressing themselves.
Adult Classes
Adults can drop in all year round for classes in Luigi Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, Ballet, Tap, Zumba, & African. Our Luigi instructors learned from the master himself and have vast knowledge of its subtleties and style; Ballet instructors gently teach the proper alignment and intricacies of this classical discipline; Contemporary teachers engage dancers with original, expressive movement. Zumba classes are full of energy and camaraderie. Tap is a study in rhythm and traditional patterns that have been passed down for years.
Children's Classes
Children's classes run during the school year and during summer intensives and workshops. The same philosophy goes for our children’s classes. It’s about the creative process, the love of movement and artistic expression, while learning the fundamentals of dance. Our Joppa Dance youth companies have the additional opportunity to perform throughout the year, attend master classes, mount their own pieces and tour the world! Auditions for Joppa are held every June.
Important Announcements
EVENTS: Joppa Dance Company will be hosting a COSTUME SALE September 30th, & October 1st (Sat/Sun) 9:00-2:00 at The Dance Place.
Joppa will also be performing "Peter Pan & the Magic Pumpkin" TUES. October 24th at 5:30 on the Waterfront in Newburyport,
(as part of Newburyport Arts Collective's Halloween Celebration).

School Cancellation Policy
For cancellations we follow the Newburyport school system. If it cancels, we cancel, which includes snow days, (& other inclement weather), and holidays, but does not include teacher workshops or the like. *There are SOME EXCEPTIONS. Please check this page for postings.
